Oldies Updates 2008

Tarnished Turtles return from Melrose and what a time it was. Three matches played against Palmer USA, The Borders and Glasgow Hawks a daunting task for any bunch of Oldies! Still it was all taken in the best possible spirit and after bolstering the team with some great players from Hawick and of course big Gav out we went into the field of Battle to realise that the jugernaut was a rolling and we were a in the way, Oldies my foot these were highly trained just out of the first division players intent on giving us a true Scottish welcome. So...... we hiked up our kilts and met them full head on...... hence the reason we only played three yep we went out but man what a fun time it was. The actual Sevens was brilliant, the horse races were a big winner and kept the kitty flowing. In all could have been the best tour ever, well I thought so!

Harvard Business School Golden Oldies Boston

Friday 28th Match V ReMax Knackers

If anyone remembers the score let me know anbd I will post it. I beleive it was four tries to two but as I say I am not to sure. Anyway the Harvard boys led the way with an collective team age of about 700 years and then some while the Cayman lads watched in awe at the agressive nature of so many veteran players. At the water break the Harvard lads slipped off a few lads and slipped on some hefty young fellas which somewhat surprised the Cayman team somewhat as the pace and agression of the game tripled with immediate effect. At the final whistle all had enjoyed the encounter and whatever the result that is what it is all about.

ReMax Tarnished Turtles now look forward to the arrival of Double D and the return of Harvard this time as an oldies team.  Harvard arrive here on March 27th and will play a one off game on March 28th. In honor of double D a beach barbeque will be held to honor our guests!

Ottawa Irish come and gone!

They came and they left with the win! I beleive that the last count was 68 - 21 in their favor but what a day of fun and entertainment it was all around with the roast Pig, the game and the social afterwards. It was great to welcome our first touring team of the year and I think that we can safely look forward to the Ottawa Irish visiting again in the not too distant future. The game itself got away from Cayman when they discovered that it would indeed be full push scrummages and kicking would be allowed, two things normally not done here. To be honest the kicking probably would not have made too much difference but the scrummages meant that we basically could not win any ball there. Add to that the fact that the Ottawa back line had, pace, flair and skill and you can see whay the result went the way it did. Oh well it is oldies and the xscore is secondary or so I heard! Next up Harvard Business school Oldies at the end of March!

The Oldies had a run out against the Tarnished Turtles on Jan 30th which ended in a seven try a piece extravaganza of champagne Rugby. The teams varied bwteen 10 and 13 a side depending upon injury and fatigue rests! Tries were plentiful and generally speaking came as the result of a series of phases and inter play which delighted those spectators present.

Warm Up game 2 V theOldies went well with the girls showing yet again a huge improvement over the game two weeks ago. The rucking has moved forward again and this time the defence was very solid at set piece and break down showing off the huge amount of hard work that the girls have put in over the past two weeks at training. Line out and scrum were solid and the girls even nicked one off the head! Tackling was far improved from the start and once again as the game continued the hits grew bigger. The next run out is Monday at 5:15.

FINAL Jamaica Old Crocs 7, Cayman Tarnished Turtles 24

2007 ReMax Knackerfest Champions Cayman Tarnished Turtles

Strictly for the over 35’s the ReMax Knackerfest gives an opportunity for many of the ‘retired players’ to have a run out against old friends and aquantences from around the world and region. The Jamaican team is always very popular and well received as many of these relationships go back decades.

We have been lucky enough to have excellent representation from the USA and Canadian teams and players and they are always a pleasure to host. Of course the Rugby is not the main event as with all Oldies tournaments it is the social side of the calendar that makes the tournament. The Knackerfest is no exception.

Held during the first weekend of ‘Pirates Week’ there are fireworks, street dances, bands and music all weekend long, mix in a little Rugby, social time and food and you have the perfect Oldies tournament!
