History
The Maples National Sevens Academy was established to ensure that the Cayman Islands would have a development program for players emerging from the Academy to compete in the IRB Sevens World Cup, the Commonwealth games, the Caribbean championships and eventually we hope the Olympics.
Academy sponsor Maples have enabled the Cayman Rugby Union to provide the players with specialized equipment and coaching as well as the opportunity to play as a team throughout the season.
The Maples Academy play in the development division of the Cable and Wireless Cayman Sevens Series C & W sevens as a team. Many of the older Maples and Calder Academy players make up the core of the Cable and Wireless National Sevens team.
The Maples Academy players are selected from the Greenligh Re inter schools program and the Maples community rugby club junior programs. Once identified these players are invited to become members of the Maples Sevens Academy where they undergo a strict training regime under the close and watchful eye of their coaches.
